About Us

Texas A&M-Fort Worth is the anchor campus for a technology and innovation district planned around the development of the city’s proposed new downtown innovation district. The campus will provide a Tier One backbone of research and education coupled with a diverse range of innovative education, workforce development, research, technology and service programs offered by Texas A&M University, Tarleton State University, the Texas A&M School of Law, and Texas A&M engineering, agriculture, emergency management and health sciences, among others. This unique development sector endeavor will become a magnet for economic growth in the North Texas region.

The 3.5 acre campus will feature three, distinct buildings and campus greenspace. This four-block complex will include classrooms, laboratories, event spaces, and flexible research and makerspaces that can be used by the public and private sectors to create, problem-solve, mentor and develop workforce skills.

The Texas A&M System will construct the Law and Education Building, which is expected to be completed in December of 2025. It will be financed with bonds backed by the Permanent University Fund and other sources.

Texas A&M-Fort Worth has its own team of architects and construction managers who started construction on the Law & Education Building in Summer 2023. Architecture firm Stantec is the primary architect, working with design architect Pelli Clarke & Partners. Construction partners include: Turner Construction Company, CARCON Industries, Source Building Group Inc., and Dikita Enterprises.

The other two buildings will be financed through a cooperative arrangement with the city and private sector partners. This group includes Virginia-based infrastructure and real-estate firm Edgemoor and Dallas-based developer KDC as the development team; Smith Group and Fort Worth-based Bennett Partners as the design team; and Clarke Construction and Fort Worth-based Byrne Construction Services as the construction partners. Start dates for these two buildings have not yet been announced.

        The Vision

Texas A&M-Fort Worth blends Tier 1 research with commercial entrepreneurism. The Texas A&M System values both cutting-edge academic inquiry and practical, market-driven innovation. We will prioritize the creation and dissemination of knowledge, as well as its practical application and commercialization, fostering an environment that encourages both research excellence and business success. Longer term and for the region, we aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry, creating opportunities for students, faculty and the community to collaborate, invent and start new ventures. Our goal is to educate the future workforce for the region.

        The Story

In Texas, most events of a significant nature are accompanied by a story that illuminates the true essence of the moment. Texas A&M-Fort Worth will recharge the innovation landscape of the community and yes, it has a story.

          The Dream Team

Mid-summer 2020, with the country and our state planning their escape from the grip of COVID, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, was searching for something to change the economic trajectory of the city and motivate its civic leadership to examine innovation of the new economy. Fort Worth Now was born and announced.

Mayor Price kickstarted Texas A&M-Fort Worth by briefing the co-chair of Fort Worth Now, businessman and civic leader John Goff, on the Texas A&M-Fort Worth vision for the city, which originated with Texas A&M System Chancellor John Sharp, Deputy Chancellor Billy Hamilton and Texas A&M School of Law Dean, Bobby Ahdieh.

          The Game Changer

As the year 2020 ended, the vision became clear as a 100-year opportunity for both Texas A&M and the Fort Worth community. A new and improved law school building, populating a three-building campus, including both Texas A&M and corporate research partners, side-by-side in downtown. It was described as a “game changer” and a “slam dunk” for the community.

City and county officials went to work formalizing a partnership that financially launched the vision. Local company CEOs met with Texas A&M officials, and a resolution was signed and in-hand encouraging “full speed ahead” with support and future public/private research partnerships. Community partners such as Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. helped fund project studies.

The vision now became a cause. The cause united Texas A&M and the Fort Worth/Tarrant County local government, civic and business communities.

November 2021 saw over 300 leaders celebrate in a downtown parking lot with the official announcement. The headline: “Texas A&M System Building New Fort Worth Campus.” Chancellor John Sharp, Mayor Mattie Parker, County Judge Glen Whitley, Mr. John Goff and then former Mayor Betsy Price were ushering in a new era for innovation and entrepreneurism.

          The Dream Team

As 2022 dawned, the assembled teams went to work to transform their cause into a working reality. And did they ever. A&M System members began the process of identifying needed facilities to accomplish their goals. Program-specific requirements were compiled for both the Law and Education Complex and the Research and Innovation Building. By the end of the year, architects and construction firms were identified to begin the design work for the first building. The city and county also began their planning meetings. And while the momentum built, the Texas A&M School of Law continued its ascent in the national rankings to become the #2 law school in the state of Texas.

          The Texas-sized Story

A cause became a commitment on January 19 at the temporary headquarters of Texas A&M- Fort Worth on the second floor at the Burnett Plaza as Chancellor Sharp offered a project update and official opening of the offices. It included a Who’s Who of Fort Worth heritage and leadership over decades and statements of support from United States Senator Kay Granger, Texas Senator Kelly Hancock, Tarrant County Judge Tim O’Hare, Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck, Mr. John Goff and A&M System Regent Robert Albritton. And of course, former Mayor Betsy Price was present and recognized.

The groundbreaking event for the new Texas A&M – Fort Worth campus was held in front of a record crowd of over 400 people, including 4 mayors of Fort Worth and record heat at the area previously known as “Hell’s Half Acre.” It was an enthusiastic crowd of city, county and regional representatives, government officials and Texas A&M dignitaries who are “all in” on this planned three-building complex. The most common term used throughout the day was a “game changer” for the city, county and region.

It is a Texas-sized story, and there will be many chapters to fill as the campus develops over the coming years.
